Ah, Talina -- heated political rhetoric is what it's all about these days. We've become bored with the hokey pokey and only putting a foot in anything besides a mouth.

Do you mean that Obama is going to raise the Federal Poverty levels? I doubt that. Charity can do what the government can't, even if Obama is elected.

I really think that comparing Bush or McCain to Mugabe is offensive. After all, I've heard that Michelle Obama is still alive and well. I doubt that she's in any danger of being burnt alive in her home, don't you?

OK - We need government employees that employ logic and avoid bureaucratic (How come you don't have Spell-Check on
and how come the typing does not return automatically?) guidelines. The persons, who are wonderful and motivated,
are chosen by test for their allegiance to HHC rather than to their potential clients. They would of course lose
their jobs and be blackballed in Texas forever. So we have a choice between a Mugabe-Bush-McCain continuation
or we can take a chance on different.

The army isn't a safety net for violent males (or females, for that matter), it is an appropriate place for those who need discipline and training, ie, the confused.

I would definitely be less bored were I a billionaire (and so would you!)

Through The Cracks would serve those who have a few bucks over the federal poverty guidelines (which doesn't make them middle class by any definition) by somehow making up for that $500 or so bucks they lose by earning $2 more.

OK - did not mean to be frivolous. This is what Reagan meant by the "safety net" when he cut off aid to rural
and urban legal defense offices. This what GWB meant by "compassionate conservatism". Primarily that meant that
meant the poor be invisible - as though they were not already. He did not envision that a whole bunch of the
middle class would also become poor in his tenure. Clinton is also to blame for the lack of any "safety net".

There has never been one for young confused, violent, white or black males, except for a judge offering them the
army or jail.
jail.

Five years ago, I was trying to talk my baby sister out of her ennui. It did not work. What happened to the
orginal questions about olives in Martinis? Should be repeated about the cherry in manhattans. But I also like
that procrastination bit.

A lot of thought would have to go into the final "product" but what I think about are people who only need a boost to be independent. Maybe putting up the deposit, first or last months rents, whatever to someone who can make the monthly payments, but can't come up with the extra payment that month.

Perhaps the person who has medicare, a fixed income a few dollars too high to qualify for medicaid aid to get prescriptions filled or the medicaid prescription premium paid - $50/month might be what gets them "over the edge".

Formula for underweight babies is very expensive, maybe the family makes too much money to qualify for WIC, but can't really afford the extra $100/month for the good stuff for their kid.

I think there are lots of situations where a little bit of help goes a long way toward keeping someone off the "public dole" and this is what I have in mind, though not yet well-defined.

In fact, I wonder if defining it too well might have the unintended consequence of some still falling Through The Cracks.

If you've got any ideas, please follow up just in case I win the lottery next week.

Interesting idea..."Through the Cracks". I like the name.

What kind of help would you offer, though?
